EiffelStudio 13.11 released: introducing the Eiffel Web Framework (EWF)

A new framework to easily build a Web Server Application in Eiffel.

Eiffel Software announced today the release of EiffelStudio 13.11, the latest version of its Integrated Development Environment (IDE). EiffelStudio is a comprehensive suite of tools that enables programmers to produce correct, reliable, and maintainable software systems while keeping control of the development process. The latest release adds a simple Web Framework to EiffelStudio.

The Eiffel Web Framework (EWF) provides EiffelStudio with a layer to build webservices such as websites, web API, communication on http (client or server). This layer is set on top of well-known servers such as Apache, IIS, but it comes also with its standalone server, written with EiffelStudio. Users quickly find a server allowing them to embed their component into any system written with EiffelStudio.

“We are proud to provide the software community with a way to communicate with the web easily and efficiently,” says Jocelyn Fiat, Senior Software Engineer. “With EiffelStudio 13.11 and the improvements we have made in the area of the web, our customers can be even more productive and efficient.”

EiffelStudio is based on the Eiffel programming language, the most extensive implementation of O-O concepts, standardized through ECMA and the International Standards Organization. Its core concepts, native only to Eiffel, such as Design by Contract™, seamless development, automatic testing, void safety, parallel programming, and modelling facilities allow developers to write predictable and controllable applications that are easy to maintain. EiffelStudio, which received the prestigious ACM Software Systems Award, is used by developers and design-team leaders in challenging enterprise environments in all areas of software development such as finance, health, defense ….With EiffelStudio, the applications they build run flawlessly 24×7, 365 days a year.
