Eiffel Software Announces Release of EiffelStudio 5.6
Latest Release Implements New Standard and Offers an Expanded Free
Version
Santa Barbara, California, September 9, 2005 --
Eiffel Software announced today the release of EiffelStudio 5.6, the latest
version of its award-winning Integrated Development Environment (IDE). This is
the first version to implement new features defined by the recently approved
Eiffel Ecma Standard (see http://www.eiffel.com/general/eiffel_standard_367.html).
"The Eiffel standard represents great progress for our customers" said Emmanuel
Stapf, head of the Compiler Division at Eiffel Software. "We are excited to
start delivering some of the new specifications and features to our customers,
only a few months after Ecma's approval of the Eiffel Standard."
EiffelStudio comes with a host of new features, including:
• New implementation of the diagram tool with enhanced performance and
functionalities, including support for UML view.
• New EiffelCOM wizard.
• Increased speed of class completion for large systems.
• Optimization of the .NET code generated for inspect instruction.
• Numerous other new features and mechanisms listed
here.
Portability has always been one of the strengths of EiffelStudio, and this new
release continues in that same tradition. EiffelStudio 5.6 is available on the
following platforms:
• Windows Classic, .NET, and 64 bits
• Linux, Linux PPC and 64 bits
• FreeBSD
• Solaris 10 on Sparc, Sparc 64, and x86
• SGI Irix
• VMS, Embedded ...
With this latest release, Eiffel Software offers a new version of its Free
Edition, which still comes with a non-commercial license and related pop-up but
includes all the features of the Enterprise Edition. This Free Edition allows
developers, managers, researchers to perform an exhaustive evaluation of
EiffelStudio and experience its full power before purchasing it.
"As software systems become more and more complex, developers need to know that
the tools they use will give them the results they expect, even before they
start developing," said Larry Miller, Director of Business Development at Eiffel
Software." This new version will do just that; it allows developers to explore
what makes Eiffel different and how these differences will make their lives
easier."
EiffelStudio is based on the widely acclaimed Eiffel programming language, a
pure object-oriented language. It's core concepts, native only to Eiffel, such
as Design-by-Contract, multiple inheritance, genericity ... allow developers to
write high quality applications that are easy to maintain. Eiffel has thus
gained prominence in recent years among developers and design team leaders in
challenging enterprise environments in the financial, insurance, manufacturing,
health, and government sectors as well as among independent development teams.
