Eiffel Software Announces Release of EiffelStudio 6.0
Latest Release Brings new Mechanism for GUI and Offers
Santa Barbara, CA, June 19, 2007 -- Eiffel Software announced today the
release of EiffelStudio 6.0, the latest version of its award-winning Integrated
Development Environment (IDE). This major release brings a new look and feel to
the IDE and enables non English speaking users to use the technology in their
own language as well as internationalize the applications they will develop.
“It’s fantastic to work at Eiffel Software, we get to use all of the latest
tools developments and enhancements before anyone else!” said Paul Bates, Senior
Software Developer with Eiffel Software. “The docking mechanism in EiffelStudio
6.0 is something I know everyone, especially me, have been waiting for. No one
user is the same so the docking mechanism is a top enhancement for 6.0.”
EiffelStudio 6.0 comes with a host of new features and tools such as:
- New docking facilities which let you control the layout of tools in
EiffelStudio. One can also lock the layout to prevent unwanted changes.
- New tabbed editor.
- Added configurable pick and drop which
lets you choose between traditional context menu or pick and drop for a mouse
right click operation.
- EiffelStudio is now internationalized, it fully supports English,
Chinese and German. A partial translation for French and Russian is provided.
- New ISO/ECMA Eiffel standard mechanisms (multi-constraint, octal and
binary notation for integers).
- Shortcuts can now be customized.
- Added dependency view so supplier/client dependency of a
group/folder/class can be investigated. Feature calls are included in dependency

"EiffelStudio 6.0 is a major release bringing lots of new features and tools to
the software community," said Larry Miller, Director of Business Development at
Eiffel Software." The most exciting one for me is internationalization as it
will enable programmers around the world to use EiffelStudio in their language
of choice and release their applications in multiple languages."
EiffelStudio is based on the widely acclaimed Eiffel programming language which
is purely object-oriented and standardized through ECMA and ISO. Its core
concepts, native only to Eiffel, such as Design-by-Contract, multiple
inheritance, genericity... allow developers to write high quality applications
that are easy to maintain. Eiffel, which recently received the ACM Software
Systems Award, is used by developers and design-team leaders in challenging
enterprise environments in the financial, insurance, manufacturing, health, and
government sectors as well as by independent development teams.
About Eiffel Software
Eiffel software, http://www.eiffel.com, was founded in 1985 with the mission of developing compilers and
tools based on the power of pure object-oriented concepts to improve
programmers' productivity, lifecycle efficiency and quality of the resulting
applications. For twenty years Eiffel Software has delivered to its customer
base the most cost-effective and advanced development tools on a large variety
of platforms. Thanks to the power of the language and the tools of the
environment, Eiffel users continuously
demonstrate that they can produce 2 to 10 times as much software in the same
amount of time as can be achieved using other IDEs and toolsets. For more
